Pu’uhonua O Kahawai (Valley of Refuge)

Malama Aina- our kuleana (responsibility) to care for the land and the natural resources

About

Our homestead provides opportunities to reconnect to the land using indigenous wisdom and old-time values and skills. We believe that preserving the knowledge of our kūpuna (elders), listening to our inner guidance, and relearning the healing traditions of our ancestors will greatly benefit our local community and beyond.

We hope that our journey to create a self-sustainable homestead will open the gateway to bridging multi-generations together developing a deep and long-lasting relationship with the land.

Our Hawaiian ancestors have always been kahu (caretakers) of the natural resources in our environment. They understood that we are part of nature and have an intimate and familial relationship to the natural world around us.

First Nations people of this continent referred to the placenta as grandmother and would bury the organ to bind the child to the ancestors and land.

The early settlers and frontiers people held similar values to modern day homesteaders of hard work, perseverance, compassion, faith, family, community, and love for the natural world.

Learn, share, and grow with our Ohana. Join us in Mālama ʻāina land stewardship today!
